Barebones Notebook Kits

A barebones notebook kit is a bit different than a barebones desktop kit. The notebook computer (also called laptop) has fewer customizable parts than a desktop. Both desktops and notebooks share roughly equivalent hardware components, i.e. motherboard, processor, hard drive, etc. However, notebooks, due to the steamlined nature of their design include most of these components on the motherboard.

Usually, the video card, sound card, wireless card, and some other components are built into the motherboard (called "on-board"). So these components are not customizable. When using a barebones notebook kit to build a notebook computer, the customizable parts will most likely be limited to the processor, hard drive and wireless adapter.
