Barebones Laptop Kits

A barebones laptop kit is a bit different than a barebones desktop kit. The laptop computer (also called notebook) has fewer customizable parts than a desktop. Both desktops and laptops share roughly equivalent hardware components, i.e. motherboard, processor, hard drive, etc. However, laptops, due to the steamlined nature of their design include most of these components on the motherboard.

Usually, the video card, sound card, wireless card, and some other components are built into the motherboard (called "on-board"). So these components are not customizable. When using a barebones laptop kit to build a laptop computer, the customizable parts will most likely be limited to the processor, hard drive and wireless adapter.
